Garry McHugh is the Project Co-ordinator at the National Youth Film School and joined Máire on today’s programme. The National Youth Film School was launched in Dublin recently by Minister for the Arts, Jimmy Deenihan and Young Irish Film Makers, the national organization for youth film in Ireland. Young Irish Film Makers set-up the National Youth Film School in 2002 and this year have teamed up with IADT and also the Irish Film Industry to run workshops for future film makers of Ireland, which are open to young people between the ages of 16-19 years. The workshops will include master classes with industry experts and practical workshops in every area from filming to writing to directing etc.
Aidan Courtney from the Ennis Book Shop was also in studio and reviewed two books aimed at teens or young adults including Treasure Hunters by James Patterson and Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
Naoise McCormack from Ennis is a student at the University of Limerick and has organised the Counting the Stars Ball. All proceeds of the Counting the Stars Ball go to the Milford Hospice which will also assist Clare families and patients who are at a terminal phase of their illness. Naoise visited Milford Hospice during the Summer and was commended by the CEO and the fundraising staff as the youngest person ever to raise funds for the hospice – her aim is to do something positive and commemorate a night to those who lost and won their battles with cancer. It’s on in the Inn at Dromoland on March 1st – check out their facebook page for more details.
