The Afternoon Show – Wednesday December 11th 2013

On The Afternoon Show today Máire Moynahan was joined by Barry Keating, Clare’s Road Safety Officer to discuss how,, according to new figures, Clare motorists are the most likely to receive penalty points after being caught driving dangerously.Figures compiled through the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority data show that drivers in the county have an average of 0.28 points – double that of those in the safest county, Donegal.  Barry talked about how it’s everyone’s responsibility, not just motorists, to ensure you are safe and following the law while on the roads. As roads and traffic become busier due to the holiday season he is urging everyone to take extra care.

The Get Ireland Walking Initiative is today adopting a partnership approach in order to maximise the number of people walking for health, well being and fitness throughout Ireland. Walking offers an opportunity for people who are inactive or have low levels of physical activity to get active. While over 60% of adults in Ireland are walking weekly, only 10% of existing walkers are currently meeting the National Physical Activity Guidelines.  For details on how your community group or club could take part please visit www.getirelandwalking.ie
