On today’s show Máire spoke with Hilary Parkinson of Blood Bikes Midwest. Blood Bikes Midwest is a charitable organisation that provides free transport to the HSE, hospices & clinics, they operate an out of hours service using volunteer riders and do not receive any government funding and are consequently dependent on fundraising activities and private donations. They provide transport of urgently needed blood, blood products, patient records, drugs, breast milk & other medical requirements between hospitals, blood transfusion banks & the human milk bank. You can get involved as a volunteer to help out whatever way you can – you can get in contact with them through their website which is currently under reconstruction but still accesible @ www.bloodbikemidwest.ie or through their facebook page Blood Bike Mid-West
Also on the show Sean Lineen, a 2nd year Student at St. Michael’s in Kilmihil and his art teacher Sarah Nestor spoke about how six Clare students have been named as finalists in the 6th annual Doodle 4 Google competition. Caroline Hamilton, Samuel Hamilton and Paul Hamilton from Kilmurry National School, Fionn Rush from Kilfenora National School and Kyla Baumann from Knockerra National School have also been shortlisted. Sean and the others are now amongst 75 children from across Ireland who now have the chance of being named Ireland’s top doodler and having their doodle displayed on the Google Ireland homepage for millions of people to see. Everyone in Clare is now being urged to visit www.google.ie/doodle4google and vote for Caroline, Fionn, Samuel, Kyla, Paul and Seán.
James Lafferty from the Clare branch of the Irish Red Cross also discussed the ongoing Ireland Flood Appeal, which will assist those whose homes have been affected by the flooding. The Irish Red Cross – Clare would like to reach out to all those people who have been affected by the flooding and would ask those people to contact James Lafferty IRC Clare Area (e-mail [email protected]) to be put in contact with your local Community Welfare Office who will asses each application case pass the information to the Irish Red Cross – Clare. An Irish Red Cross representative will then call to your home to verify the application. A small cash grant up to €1000.00 is available for each affected applicant.
