On The Afternoon Show today Gavin Grace spoke with Puneet Saidha, Director of Research Support Services at the University of Limerick following the news that UL has secured €5.3 million in funding from Science Foundation Ireland.
The funding was awarded to research groups where projects demonstrated partnerships and collaborations, links with industry and sustainable planning. The award to UL includes projects in which researchers are working closely with Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Food companies, among others.

John Kennedy, the Editor of Silicon Republic also joined the show to discuss new figures that shows employment in the Irish-based video games industry has increased 91% since 2009 to a current estimated total of 3,344 workers and has generated revenues of €2 billion since 2001, a study of the industry has revealed. The survey shows that in 2009 there were 13 games development teams active in Ireland. In 2012, that figure now stands at 51 teams, almost a 300% leap in just three years.

Dr. Donal De Buitler is the Director of Publicpolicy.ie.  He joined Gavin Grace on the show to discuss a new report on earnings inequality in Ireland commissioned by publicpolicy.ie has found that median earnings have declined by almost 7.5% from their peak in 2008. The decline has been greater for male workers, whose earnings are down by 9.5% since 2008 with female workers suffering a decline of just over 3.5%.

Singer, Songwriter and Musician Declan Sinnott also spoke to The Afternoon Show. Declan was a member of Moving Hearts. He then devoted himself to production work with both Mary Black and Frances Black. During a 13-year and six-album association, he toured all over the world with Mary Black. He has been working with Christy Moore for almost 30 years, since appearing on Christy Moore’s Ride On album in 1984. He is still playing and touring with Christy Moore. His first solo album "I Love the Noise it Makes" was released last month. He plays Kenny’s in Lahinch tonight.

Also Hugh Gallagher, Rachel Culligan and Collette O’Brien McLoughlin were in studio to meet Gavin.  All are members of Ennis Players. Ennis Players annual Supper Theatre kicks off on Monday night next – November 19th and runs until the 22nd. Ennis Players are an amateur theatre group – the current Group has been in existence since the 1970’s and started competing on the Irish Drama Festival circuit in the mid1980’s. They have enjoyed considerable success with their productions at local, national and international level.
