The Afternoon Show – Thursday March 6th 2014

On today’s show Brenda Ni Ghairbhi, Seachtain na Gaeilge Manager spoke to Máire about the annual event showcasing the Irish language. Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014 runs from 1 – 17th March with thousands of events taking place in every county in Ireland and abroad, in countries as far reaching as Lithuania, Australia, Canada and even Japan – from concerts to golf as Gaeilge, from guided tours of cultural centres to Mardi Gras lán-Ghaelach. It’s very important that festival events appeal to as wide a range of people’s interests as possible. The aim is for everyone to take part in the festival and to seize the opportunity to use and celebrate Irish at festival events or even in their own way: at home, at work, with friends, on social media or otherwise. It doesn’t matter if you have a cúpla focal or a lot, Irish is for everyone.

Claire O’Meara from the Clare branch of the Irish Cancer Society joined the show as International Women’s Day will be marked around the globe on Saturday – March 8th and here in Ennis and Clare it’s no different with a number of special events taking place. Particularly on Saturday – there will be an all day event held in Dan O’Connell’s Bar in the Height, Ennis. There will be food, beauty, fashion and hair events as well as a chance to mingle and socialise. It kicks off at 1.30pm.
