On the show today Máire spoke to Eileen Carney, an Irish Cancer Society Community Fundraiser for Munster about “no make up selfies”! Over the past while we’ve seen many social media trends take over our Facebook and Twitter pages but the latest craze hitting the Internet is for a good cause. #nomakeupselfie made its way online last night and snowballed with women across the world posting selfies of themselves all in the name of breast cancer awareness. Using the hashtags #breastcancerawareness and #nomakeupselfie, people are encouraging women to donate and nominate others to take selfies and share them online. The trend didn’t originate with cancer groups however they have noticed the spike in donations as a result. To donate to the Irish Cancer Society and support services you can text PINK to 50300 to make a €4 donation or to access services and the charities Specialist Cancer Nurse call 1800 200 700. The annual Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer Society takes place nationwide Friday week – March 28th
Also in studio this afternoon was members of Ennis Players. The group is celebrating 40 years of entertaining the county this year and will donate all proceeds from their upcoming show to four local causes. The group is performing Calendar Girls in Glor from March 26th to 29th. Rita Brady – who plays the part of “Jessie” and Allen Flynn – the show’s Director joined Máire to talk about the stage show and what it means to them. Tickets are available from Glor on 065 6843103. All proceeds will be going to Cahercalla Hospice, Slainte an Chlair, West Clare Cancer Centre and Alzheimer’s Day Care in Ennis.
Stylist Tess Purcell was in studio to look at current trends and what’s hot and what’s not for the Spring Summer season. She advised on clearing out the winter wardrobe and getting ready for Spring and Summer. She also let us know about this year’s Miss Clare competition.
