On today’s Afternoon Show, John Morgan from Kilfenora told Máire all about how Kilfenora will stage its second attempt at the Guinness World Record for the largest Irish traditional céilí band ever this Sunday (27th April). Organisers are hoping to exceed the figure of 204 musicians that gathered in the North Clare village last August. They need a 250 minimum this year. Members of the public are invited to bring an instrument to Kilfenora’s Square with registration beginning at 1pm, however it’s advisable to come early! There will be a practice run-through of the Kilfenora Jig set before the Kilfenora Céilí Band leads the musicians through the formal attempt at 2.30pm.
Renowned harpist Cormac de Barra was also a guest of the show today. Next Monday (28th April at 12.15pm) Cormac and his collaborator, voice of Clannad Moya Brennan, come to Glor with a musical performance entitled Ten14. The show is brought by The Ark with the support of an Arts Council Touring Award. Bringing together traditional Irish music and original music by Moya and Cormac, this musical performance for families is inspired by the legend of Brian Boru’s harp and celebrates 1,000 years since the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. Miss Clare 2011 and Hazel McMahon – Miss Clare 2012. Miss Clare 2014, which is in association with the Miss Ireland Pageant, takes place this weekend with Esther and Hazel acting as judges, along with Mr. Ennis Gerry Lane and Photographer Patrick McHugh. The annual Miss Clare is one of the main events in the local social calendar and one of the most glamorous events in Ennis. Again this year Miss Clare 2014 pageant will be held in the Auburn Lodge Hotel on the 26th of April.
