The Afternoon Show – Friday October 18th 2013

On The Afternoon Show today Máire was joined by the Friday Panel, made up of Dermot Hayes of EmployAbility Clare and the Alliance of Social Protection of Recipients, Paddy Darmody, a member of Ennis Chamber and Journalist with The Clare People – Claire Gallagher. The panel discussed Budget 2014, including how senior cabinet ministers have insisted they have no idea how many people will lose their medical card as a result of 113 million euro worth of cuts to the scheme, free GP care for under 5’s, the end of the telephone allowance, the reduced Jobseekers allowance of €100 to under 25’s and the retention of the 9% Vat rate on tourism sector

Stylist Tess Purcell was also in studio to outline events for Ennis Fashion Week. Ennis, known as "The Boutique Capital of Ireland", brings its wide range of unique retailers together for a series of special events and in-store promotions for customers bringing the whole town together for some stylish activities. Main events and fringe events combine over the festival to create an inclusive, exciting and innovative festival. Starting today the fashion week runs until October 28th. For opening weekend -in conjunction with the Irish Cancer Society, will be going pink for its opening weekend and the people of Ennis are asked to join in. Local retailers are encouraged to take part in a pink-tinged window display competition. Emma Foote from the University Concert Hall in limerick joined Máire to talk about an  open audition which takes place next Tuesday at UCH for this year’s Christmas panto, – Aladdin, which features Twink, Richie hayes, Kamal Ibrahim and Leanne Moore. Gerard Linnane from Linnane’s Pub in Kilfenora also told us about another Trad 4 Trocaire Session, which is taking place in Linnane’s this coming Sunday to raise funds for overseas development through the charity.  It starts from 3pm and runs until closing!
