Joining Gavin Grace on The Afternoon Show today was Ian Power, spokesperson for Spunout.ie.  Spunout.ie, a youth support organisation is calling on the Government to honour its commitment to set up primary mental health care facilities for young people. The call from Spunout.ie comes after another teenage girl died by suicide this week. 15 year old Shannon Gallagher, from Co. Donegal, took her own life on Wednesday – less then six weeks after her 13 year old sister Erin, also died by suicide. In its programme for Government, the coalition ring-fenced 35 million euro for mental health services for young people. Also on today’s show Roz Kachchhi, the PRO for Forgotten Horses Ireland spoke to Gavin about the charity and the work they do. Forgotten Horses Ireland is a new organisation, which was formed in March 2012, which is dedicated to the care and welfare of feral and abandoned horses in commonage and remote areas in Ireland.  Many people are unaware of the depth of the problem in remote rural areas. Clare FM’s Your Tunes Presenter and our resident film buff – Stephen McDermott also joined Gavin in studio to talk about how The Hobbit is being released in cinemas today. The highly anticipated prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy is directed by Peter Jackson and is expected to smash the box office records this Christmas.

Caitriona Lowry is a volunteer with Paw Pourri. She’s talking part in a sponsored sleep out on the streets of Ennis, which will take place on December 16th to collect much-needed funds for animal rescue services locally. Volunteers with Paw Pourri will sleep out at the courthouse in Ennis on Sunday night for 12 hours to raise awareness, food and funds for animal charities. Actress Aoibhin Garrihy, well known for her role as Neasa Dillon in Fair City was also a guest of the show. She discussed a special fundraiser she’s involved with. On Wednesday 19th December the ‘Buds to Blossoms Fashion Show’ is back at the Armada Hotel, Spanish Point, in aid of Lotus Child, an Irish charity dedicated to rescuing and caring for street children in India and Saint Vincent De Paul, Clare, a charity at the heart of every Irish community. Aoibhín travelled to Calcutta last year with Lotus Child, and witnessed firsthand exactly how much Lotus Child and the children of India need support.

Kevin McGillicuddy from Clare FM Sport also joined us for a look ahead to the weekend’s sporting action and what’s coming up on tonight’s Sideline View at 6pm.
