Confirmation of Davy Fitzgerald's departure as Clare hurling manager is likely within the next 48 hours.
The County Board last night held talks with Fitzgerald, following widespread reports that he was about to end his five-year term in charge.
The 2013 All Ireland-winning manager is currently holidaying in the U-S, but is expected to make an announcement on his future in the coming days.
The story was broken by the Irish Examiner's John Fogarty and he joined Gavin on the phone to give the latest on the story.
Gavin also spoke to Clare FM's Derrick Lynch and Clare FM Commentator Syl O'Connor with many listeners ringing the station and texting the show with their reaction to the news.
Postmasters are to take a ‘more radical approach’ to demand Government action to secure the future of the Post Office Network.
The Irish Postmasters’ Union (IPU) Executive and Branch Officers held an emergency meeting earlier this month to consider what course Postmasters will take as they are frustrated by an ongoing lack of commitment by the Government to use Post Offices.
IPU General Secretary Ned O’Hara said at the meeting members gave a mandate to the Executive to take a tougher, more vocal and more radical approach in their demand for Government to invest in the Network’s future and to make more services available.
Promises to deliver additional Government Services which the Network can provide such as Motor Tax, at a saving to Government in excess of €60m, have not progressed.
This compounds the removal of Department of Social Protection cheque payments from the Post Office Network earlier this year and the insistence by some Government Departments that payments due to them, by members of the public, are made by banker’s drafts rather than using Post Office services.
The General Secretary of the Irish Postmasters' Union spoke to Gavin about the latest on this issue.
The UL Hospitals Group plans to introduce a bed bureau from next month – it would see GPs deal with a centralised point of contact when deciding whether to refer patients to the Emergency Department in Limerick or the Medical Assessment Unit in Ennis.
Clare TD, Dr. Michael Harty claims the plan takes away the GP's ability to liaise directly with senior clinical staff and will be bad for petients here. He's called the proposal a "devastating blow"
Professor Declan Lyons, Clinical Director Medicine with the UL Hospitals Group was in studio to explain how this bed bureau would work.
Arthritis is the single biggest cause of disability in Ireland. It affects almost 1 million people, damaging joints, causing severe pain, stiffness, immobility and deformity and it can be a daily challenge to cope with the resulting pain and fatigue
Arthritis does not discriminate. It is a disease that can affect anyone from the newborn right through to the elderly.
Arthritis takes away people’s dignity by preventing them from doing basic, everyday tasks – a parent, for instance, who can no longer pick up their child; a father unable to hold down a job; a child unable to play with their friends. That is the reality of arthritis. For many it means isolation, difficulties at work and a loss of self-confidence.
In order to support people facing these challenges Arthritis Ireland will deliver a 6 week Living Well with Arthritis course in Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis, beginning on Thursday the 22nd of September. There is an online course also. More details can be got from their website www.arthritisireland.ie
The course has been devised by experts and has proven to be effective in helping people with Arthritis and related conditions to manage pain, reduce fatigue and to improve well-being. It also gives those who attend an opportunity to meet and share experiences with people who are coping with many of the same issues.
Gavin was joined on the show by Grainne O'Leary, Head of Service Development wit Arthritis Ireland.

He spoke to Clare FM's Ronan Moyles about Project EDWARD.
A national public information campaign to raise awareness of the safe and effective use of medicines was unveiled today. The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) initiative advises the public that to get the most benefit from their medicine, they should take the time to always read the information printed on the packaging and/or the product leaflet. This information includes essential details such as the correct dose, instructions for use and potential side effects. Entitled ‘For the full benefit, Take three minutes’, this first ever campaign undertaken by the HPRA was launched by Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, and will run for six weeks across national and regional radio, digital and print media from today.
From research they found that one in four people (23%) don’t read the information that comes with their medicine, while one in eight people (13%) have taken a prescription medicine not prescribed for them.
Catriona Fisher, Director of Quality, Scientific Affairs and Communication with the Health Products Regulatory Authority spoke to Gavin about this new campaign.
