Prince Charles visits the Burren
First we heard Prince Charles Speaking to a crowd of around 150 guests saying how it was a great pleasure to be in the west of Ireland and that he had been overwhelmed by the welcome he had received AND . . . was very much looking forward to his visit to the Burren later on Tuesday.
It was a proud day for those involved in the Burren Life Project, the BurrenBeo Trust and Burren IFA on Tuesday as Britains Prince Charles paid a private visit to Slieve Carron to see first hand the unique style of conservation farming that goes on there. As people awaited the arrival of the Prince of Wales and his large entourage, John Cooke got a preview of the Royal tour for himself with Michael Davoren of the Burren IFA and landowners Pat and Oliver Nagle…
We then spoke to father and son Pat and Oliver Nagle live on the show who spoke about how they got on with the Prince during his tour of their farm. Prince Charles even extended an invitation to them to his farm in Highgrove.
Brendan Dunford Burren Life Programme Manager Officially welcomed The prince of Wales to the Burren and said it was a facinating experience.
As Prince Charles was escorted through the land of Patrick and Oliver Nagle he was guided on his way by experts from the Burren Life Project, Burren Beo Trust and the local farmers themselves. He was also given some interesting facts on the Burren landscape by children from Carron and Boston National Schools who have recently completed the EcoBeo Programme – John Cooke was there to speak to the younger Burren experts and their teachers.
Alan Flynn of the Old Ground Hotel Ennis, spoke to us next. Alan was one of approx 20 guests present at the Druid Theatre Galway for a Shakespeare Performance and Afternoon Tea with Camilla Duchess of Cornwall yesterday afternoon. Alan spoke with Duchess, and reassured her that Prince Charles was in good company in the Burren.
Birgitta Curtin of the Burren Smokehouse Lisdoonvarna was in attendance at the reception at NUIG, where she witnessed the significant gesture, handshake, between Sinn Fein's Gerry Adams and The Prince of Wales. Birgitta said the experience of being there was one she will never forget.
Finally, Evan Taltyof Wild Irish Sea Veg, Spanish Point also rubbed shoulders with the Duchess of Cornwall at a private event where 7 Irish Companies showcased their products, Evan spent some time chatting to Camilla who told him she has been keeping an ear to the ground listening to Clare FM on her travels through the West of Ireland.
