Morning Focus Wednesday March 21

Over 120 key decision makers from the U.S. northeast gathered at the residence of the Consul General of Ireland in New York to learn about and discuss potential economic development and investment opportunities in County Clare
This was one of the appointments during the St Patricks’s schedule for five Clare delegates
The cost of such trips often causes some controversy, however Clare County Council maintain that the benefits of such trips far outweigh the cost.
On Wednesday’s Morning Focus Marian Egan was joined in studio by Ger Dollard, Director of Services at Clare County Council and Councillor Pat Hayes, Mayor of Clare to find out what benefits they garnered from the trip to make it value for money.

A Vatican report which was ordered in the wake of the Murphy and Ryan reports into clerical child sex abuse was published yesterday
The inquiry was carried out by the Apostolic Visitation to Ireland.
It involved teams visiting all 4 Catholic archdioceses, seminaries and religious congregations
The Irish bishops gave their reaction to the findings at a press conference in Maynooth
Michael Kelly, Deputy Editor of The Irish Catholic explained exactly what was in the report

Victims support group One in Four says that the Vatican is still not accepting responsibility for its role in creating the culture of purposeful cover-ups of the sexual abuse of children
Responding to the Summary of the Findings of the Apostolic Visitation to Ireland,  One in Four says it is disappointing that the Vatican did not use the opportunity to acknowledge that its interventions in the abuse scandal had allowed individual Catholic Church leaders in Ireland to ignore guidelines and to protect the good name of the Church at the expense of the safety of children
Deirdre Kenny, Advocacy Director of One in Four, had a word with Marian.
