Morning Focus – Wednesday June 24th 2015

On Wednesday's edition of Morning Focus with John Cooke

Enda Kenny's defended a controversial cut to a social welfare payment for single parents. The eligibility criteria for the One Parent Family Payment will be changed next month so that parents no longer qualify once their youngest child turns 7. The move has been planned for several years, but the government said it would not kick in until extra childcare facilities were in place. But Tuesday afternoon Enda Kenny says the cut will give single parents an incentive to take on more paid work. Andrea Galgey Spokesperson for the National One Parent Family Network spoke to John

Tourists will this weekend be able to walk in the footsteps of Prince Charles, who made a historic a visit to County Clare last month. Prince Charles fulfilled a life-long desire to walk in the Burren, in order to gain a better understanding of the Burren's history, farming, traditions, its huge trove of documented and undocumented archaeology, and to improve his understanding of the Burren as a learning landscape.
Organised on land owned and farmed by longstanding Corofin family Pat and Oliver Nagle, the walk was deemed a resounding success and brought national and international positive exposure to the Burren.
With this in mind Corofin Tourism Association has organised a first Free Princes Walk for Sunday 28th June, starting from Corofin at 1pm. A bus, sponsored by Corofin Tourism Association, is organised to bring people to and from the Nagles Farm in Carron. Martin Waldron of Corofin Tourist Association and Famer Oliver Nagle both spoke to John about this new venture.

Newmarket on Fergus Mother of 3 Lesleyanne Finn joined us on the show to highlight a recent incident of Stranger Danger – On Tuesday last, Lesleyanne's son Thomas (8) was approached outside his home in their estate by a gentleman in a blue car, with a female driver and what Thomas believes were 2 other men in the back of the car – Thomas described the tone of the gentleman's voice as aggressive as he called him toward the car, Thomas went toward him then deciding to run back into his home when the car sped away – Lesleyanne wants to stress this could be a misunderstanding or an innocent situation but with Kids on holidays from school now and many outside playing , parents and children need to be more aware of stranger danger.

Danielle Kelly in Labasheeda called the show after listening to Lesleyanne's story to highlight a recent similar incident involving her 2 and half year old son, whereby he too was approached by a strange car in their area, It's unclear whether the incidents are linked in any way, and Gardaí are investigating – Danielle described what she saw to John.
