Morning Focus Wednesday 19th March

On Today's Morning Focus; Marian began by speaking to Councillor Richard Nagle from Ennistymon and business man Ross Quinn of Vasco Dine Wine Deli & Eco Adventure about the issue of signage.  Ross has put forward a petition concerning road signage which claims Clare County Council is unfairly favouring Council-run tourist attractions in the area, to the detriment of competing private businesses.

Cllr Nagle says that signage for the internationally known attractions bring people to the area and can also help with spreading business.  For example people coming to the Cliffs of Moher may call to nearby restaurants to have lunch or decide to stay over in B&B's.  Cllr Nagle says there has to be signs in place for visitors.

Up next we heard from Ennis student Tommy Meskill who has worked previously with Clare FM.  He recently got back from Ghana with a group of 47 students from Dublin City University as part of the Global Brigades Ireland Charity.  He spoke to Morning Focus about the experience and his studies.

Tony Griffin Co-Founder and CEO of The Soar Foundation and former Clare hurler spoke to Marian about the foundation which creates and delivers early intervention preventative programs for young people from all backgrounds, where within a safe and supportive environment they are given the opportunity to be themselves, to build emotional awareness, self-confidence, peer respect, self-belief and resiliency.

As The first International Moving Beyond Labels and Limits Child Development Conference is due to take place in Dublin on the 22nd of March Marian was joined in studio by Mary Kelly who hails from Doolin and who's son, Darragh has a diagnosis of global developmental delay. Karen O'Connor. Speech and Language Therapist and Director of the Child Development Centre, was also in studio to talk about the programmes available for parents in Clare.

Finally Peggy Eustace, Treasurer of the Clare Branch of the Irish Kidney Association, spoke to Marian as the group celebrate their 25th birthday.  They will host an Information Evening in the Templegate Hotel Ennis on tonight at 7 30pm.  The theme of tonight's talk is the Circle of Life.  Tonight will also see the Local Launch of Organ Donor Awareness Week.
