Morning Focus – Wednesday 14/02/18

Morning Focus celebrated Valentine’s Day by going out into the streets of Ennis and asking members of the public about their thoughts on this special holiday.

At 9 am, Gavin kicked off the show by announcing this week’s competition in honour of Valentine’s day. He is giving away an overnight stay for two persons in one of The O’Donoghue Ring hotels in Kerry. The stay includes bed and breakfast as well as a three course meal.

Then, Gavin spoke to TD Dr Michael Harty about the Ennis Medical Assessment Unit scale backs. The Dáil heard that it will go from a 7-day-service to a 5-day-service. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also commented on the situation. Listen back below:

Next, Gavin spoke to Margaret McCormack, Information Officer at IPOA, about the continual rising rents in Ireland and what property owners have to do with the issue.

Following that, Gavin discussed the issue of illegal dumping with community activist, Dermot Hayes.

At 10 am, Gavin chatted with local woman, Cora Guinnane about her travels to Sierra Leone with Trócaire and the beginning of Lent. Listen back below:

At 11 am, Gavin talked to musicians, Eoin O’Neill, Adam Shapiro, Jon O’Connell, and Kieran O’Connell, who are also known as The Fiddle Case. Luka Bloom also joined them on the show. Together they played some songs for Morning Focus listeners.
