Morning Focus – Wednesday 08/08/18

On Wednesday’s morning focus we began the show with an interesting study from NUIG. The study finds that a third of college students believe consent to sex can be given after 14 pints or 3 bottles of wine.

It also concludes that 70% of women and 40% of men have been sexually harassed by the time they leave university. Dr Siobhán O’Higgins, Smart Consent researcher from the School of Psychology in NUI Galway and Megan Reilly, President of NUI Galway’s Students Union talked more to Gavin about the study and the attitudes of college students.

Then Gavin spoke to John Hanafin the Chairman of the ULHG (University of Limerick Hospitals Group) Patient Council and Catherine Hand of Patient Advocacy and Liaison Services at ULHG. The ULHG Patient Council is a group of patients treated at Ennis and Limerick hospitals and family members who went through it with them. The council provides advice on ways to improve services and the hospital experience and is currently looking for new members.
