Clare households will pay 15% more in Local Property Tax in 2017 than they have for the last two years.
Councillors have voted to collect the LPT at the full rate for the coming year, which is expected to garner an extra 1.5 million euro for the local authority.
Local representatives passed the proposal but 21 votes to 4, at a special debate on the issue.
The motion to forego the 15% cut came from Fianna Fail Councillor Tom McNamara who insists the extra funds must be spent to improve quality of life in Clare.

The UL Hospitals Group plans to introduce a bed bureau from next month – it would see GPs deal with a centralised point of contact when deciding whether to refer patients to the Emergency Department in Limerick or the Medical Assessment Unit in Ennis.
However, Dr. Michael Harty claims the plan takes away the GP's ability to liaise directly with senior clinical staff and will be bad for patients here.

Homelessness charities say there are too many State-funded organisations dealing with those without housing, and some should be axed.
More than 75 charities and groups currently receive State funding to provide homeless services. Last year, €95m — or around €19,000 for every homeless person — was spent by the State on homeless services. This figure does not take into account spending on building social housing for those without a home.

There are many misconceptions about grief and it helps to know that it is different for everybody, that there is never a set length of time to mourn, that a new bereavement may trigger off unresolved issues from an earlier loss (like losing a parent when you were young or maybe having a miscarriage many years ago) and so on.
Claire Forde is a counsellor specialising in bereavement. She is hosting a series of talks on grief and grieving (Helping to Heal the Wounded Heart) in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon starting on 20th October and running for 6 nights to 24th November.

A new Youth Employability Initiative run by Clare Youth Service is looking for young people aged 18 – 24 years across the county who are experiencing barriers in their career development. The programme will work with participants on a one-to-one basis to address their individual needs and will provide training in employability skills, CV preparation, mentoring, job-seeking workshops and retraining where necessary. Youth Employability Initiative aims to assist anyone in the target age group who feels that their progress towards accessing employment has stalled. This includes those who have attended third-level courses, whether they have completed them or not but who have been unable to transfer into employment.
