Clare County Council has sent letters to third level grant applicants in the county asking them to submit proof that they have paid the household charge
The local authority is responsible for processing the college application at a cost and a spokesperson for the council says that the Household Charge was introduced to fund local services such as the assessing and processing grants

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Johnny Flynn, Ennis Area Councillor who said the unfortunate situation is the consequence of people not paying

Pamela Rochford of the Clare Campaign against Household & Water Taxes said threatening to deprive families of third level education grants is a new low for the government and councils

The Irish Citizens Party launched earlier this year in Clare is planning a campaign of public political debates in the county- the first meeting will be held in Kilrush Golf Club on Tuesday at 8pm

Postal services in Corofin have been restored
Yesterday morning a new post office opened up in new premises which were formerly The Corofin Arms in the Main street of the North Clare village
It will be operated by Ms Emer Burke , a member of the well known local business family (husband John)
Postal services in Corofin were suddenly halted on July 4th when the supermarket which operated the Post Office closed for business, however An Post pledged to find an alternative premises as quickly as possible
