On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Senator Martin Conway of Fine Gael about the proposed health cuts and councillors receiving golden handshakes when leaving for jobs in the Oireachtas 

Senator Conway said he was shocked to hear that Senator Mulcahy received €36,000 when leaving his council seat for a seat in Seanad Eireann
With regards to HSE health cuts he thinks it was handled badly- governments make mistakes and when they realised they did they rowed back on it
He added that personal assistants create independence for people with disabilities.

Clonlara Paralympian Sarah Caffrey spoke with John about her experience as a first time Paralympian – she competed in the Rowing at the London Games
Sarah is back to work today as a primary school teacher in London- John started by asking her about her Paralympic experience in London.

A meeting regarding health cuts took place in the West County Hotel last night
Organised by former Labour Party Ennis Town Councillor Paul O’Shea the guest speakers included  Anne Marie Flanagan, Pat Shannon of Caring for Carers, Dr Billy O’Connell of Miltown Malbay, Andy Pike of IMPACT, Fiachre Hennessey of Clarecare, Ann Norton of Clare Crusaders
Dr Billy O’Connell- a Miltown Malbay GP- spoke with John about his take on the health cuts.

Marie Keane, President of the Clare Law Association and a volunteer Solicitor with the Free Legal Advice Clinic joined John to explain the Personal Insolvency Bill 2012Marie will be chairing the seminar in the Temple Gate Hotel tomorrow organised by Clare Citizens’ Information Service and FLAC.

Ennis has reclaimed the coveted title of Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre. Clare’s County Town received the accolade at the National Tidy Town Awards in Dublin this afternoon, where it also secured its 12th Gold medal in as many years.
The town went on to win the Gum Litter Task Force National Award in which Newmarket-on-Fergus was a finalist AND won the Midwest Endeavour Prize with Connolly, Ballynacally and Mountshannon as finalists in that category
The success for Clare didn’t stop there – Ballynacally and Kilrush both received Gold Medals, Mountshannon secured a Silver while there were Bronze Medals for Kilkee and Tuamgraney
John spoke with Aine Purcell – Chairperson, Ennis Tidy Towns,(contact 065 6842988) and Paul Edson, Kilrush Tidy Towns Chairperson, Denis Minogue from Mountshannon Tidy Towns and James Maher of Ballynacally Tidy Towns to get their reactions.

Shannon and District Lions Club are holding a 10k Run and 5K Fun Run/Walk this Wednesday evening 12th September in Shannon
This is a follow up to their first 10k run last year which raised much needed funding to meet the increasing demands on the services of the Lions Club and also support local community projects
Lions Club are engaged in responding to the needs of people or families at times of need or experiencing difficult or tragic circumstances in the district
Their Christmas Food Appeal is an annual project with ever increasing demands.
New category of requests from people who would have been contributors to the club in the past
This year is their 30th Anniversary- a Lions Club was founded in Shannon in 1982
Tony McMahon of the Shannon Lyons Club encouraged people to support them.

Clare ISPCA Warden Frankie Coote joined John in studio with advice on the proper care of animals
He encouraged people to make sure their animals are locked up and safe in Kilkee this weekend and not in the area of the strand on Sunday as there is horseracing taking place
