A charity working for older people is calling on funds to be diverted away from the Fair Deal nursing home scheme, to better fund those who want to stay at home. Alone says that 57 percent of the budget for services for older people is being allocated for just 6 percent of the older population. CEO of Alone Sean Moynihan says one third of older people in nursing homes, could be living at home with the right help he spoke to John. In Shannon Kay Murphy Vice President of National Active Retirement gave her opinion on the campaign.

Tens of thousands of families are set to avail of "hassle-free loans" of up to €1,000 as the Government moves to break the dependence on moneylenders. The plan, being spearheaded by the Department of Social Protection, will see loans being approved within an hour with just minor credit checks. Some 40,000 loans are to be rolled out per annum by the country's post offices and credit unions in a major effort to provide an alternative to moneylenders. A range of agencies like St Vincent dePaul and the Money Advice and Budgeting Service are set to work on the scheme, which it's hoped could begin in September. Charlie Weston Personal Finance Editor Irish Independent spoke to John. 

West Clare raised mother and grandmother Geraldine McCarthy from Ballynacally is the subject of a TV3 programme which aired this week as part of their Adoption Stories Series.  Adopted by a West Clare farming family in 1959, Geraldine always knew she was adopted and has been searching for her birth mother from a very young age, she shared her experience with John Cooke . . . In association with the Clare Local Enterprise Office the East Clare Community Co-Op hosted an information evening on Tuesday June 23rd in the Sustenance Building, Main St., Scariff. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with people and agencies who can help in setting up a new business and who can assist in taking an existing business to the next level. Particular emphasis will be placed on food related businesses, with both the Enterprise Kitchen and the Training Kitchen at the Co-Op open to all. The presentation will start at 7.30, with doors open and refreshments available from 7.00.  Ger English Manager of the East Clare Community Co-op Scariff spoke to John.

Ogonnolloe's Declan Kinahan aka Deco, joined John Cooke ahead of his performance at Inis Fest, The showgrounds Ennis Sunday.
