On Tuesdays Morning Focus; John was joined by Ronan Judge. Journalist with the Clare People, Jim Connolly, Founder of Rural Resettlement Ireland and Seamus Boland of Irish Rural link to talk about the sentencing of three men for the robbery of a Cree Pensioner .Noel Garry of Tullycrine, Kilrush was jailed for three years yesterday for a robbery that forced 68 year old Michael McMahon to flee his isolated house for a nursing home, while Shane Donnellan of Clohanbeg, Cree and Joseph Lernihan of Finnanon Park, Mullagh were given three year suspended sentences.
The court heard that Mr McMahon remains in a nursing home as he's too afraid to return home to Cree following his ordeal in 2012 which lead him to cycle 30 miles through the night to check in to St. Joseph's Hospital in Ennis.
Up next Councillor Paul O'Shea and Councillor Brian Meaney were in studio to discuss whether it's appropriate for Councillor Meaney to travel to New York and take part in The St Patrick's day Parade. At last nights Ennis town Council meeting Cllr O'Shea put forward a motion calling for Ennis town Council to boycott the St. Patrick's Day parade in New York unless the ban on gay rights groups to participate is lifted.
Elaine Hogan a Post Master in Miltown Malbay was next in studio with John. The Dáil voted down a motion which would have guaranteed the future of the post office network. TD's instead approved a government counter-motion which fell short of guaranteeing the survival of smaller post offices. Elaine was in the Dail for the vote and is fighting to keep Post offices alive.
Solicitor Mairead Doyle then joined John in Studio for Clare FM's Free Legal Advice Clinic. Mairead answered listener's questions on Family Law regarding, maintenance, guardianship and access.
Andrew Dundass Chairman of Clare IFA was on the phone speaking to John as himself and 30 Clare farmers made their way to Dublin to protest over beef prices. The IFA insist months of consecutive beef price cuts and adjustments to carcase specifications are pushing farmers to the streets.
