Clare County Council has voted to reduce the property tax charge here by the maximum amount of 15%.A special meeting on the issue was held at Áras Chontae an Chláir this morning which saw members of the technical group and Fianna Fáil join forces with the exception of Cllrs Christy Curtin and Ian Lynch.
The 17 Councillors, who formed a pact on the issue, voted for a full reduction of 15 per cent on the property tax. While Fine Gael voted against the reduction saying it would mean on average a reduction of 26 to 66 cent a week in people's bills in 2015. The vote was carried and the reduction in the charge will come into force in 2015.Joe Carey TD (FG), Timmy Dooley (FF) joined Marian to talk about the controversial decision.
Irish Water has said landlords will not be held liable for arrears of water charges built up by their tenants.The utility firm said landlords will be sent application packs in relation to their rental properties, which they must forward to the tenants. In the case of an owner occupier, the full allowances in relation to water usage are allocated in the normal way and the occupier is liable for the bill. Its 20 years since Boris Yeltsin famously kept the then Taoiseach Albert Reynolds waiting on the tarmac at Shannon, In August 2006, a year before Yeltsin died, he finally visited Co Clare. He was taken for a day’s deep-sea fishing as part of a three-day trip. Willie O’Callaghan took Yeltsin and an entourage of about 20 out around Hag’s Head on his cruiser, True Light, departing from Liscannor pier, and stopping off on Inis Oírr Island for lunch. Willie recalled his day’s fishing with the former Russian premier with Marian.
