The referendum to repeal the Eight Amendment continues to be a hot button issue throughout the country including here in Clare.

The show began with Independent Clare TD and GP, Dr. Michael Harty discussing how GPs have reacted to the ‘Yes’ vote and what the upcoming legislation means for them.

Bishop of Killaloe, Fintan Monahan also discussed Friday’s vote and the implications that it had on the Catholic Church’s place as Ireland’s moral compass after it advocated a ‘No’ vote.

Next, the show heard from the Manager of Clare Marts, Martin McNamara regarding the rising insurance costs that could close many marts nationwide.

Sticking with finance, the show then heard from Tommy Corbett of Carey Corbett Financial Services, Ennis, regarding mortgages and whether to switch or stay put.

Then the next question the show asked was: how can we stop bullying? Dr James O’Higgins Norman, Director of the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre in DCU talked bullying in schools and online, and how a major UNESCO project will offer solutions.

Shifting focus to inside the classroom, a local Ennis maths teacher, Niall Murphy discussed being shortlisted for the Irish Maths Trust’s Mathematics Teacher of the Year award.

Next the show had an animal welfare update from Clare County Dog Warden, Frankie Coote.

Following that the show was updated by Paul Perry on the Ennis Book Club Festival and the new dates for its events after delays caused by Storm Emma.

Then the show heard from Mary Morrissey from Clarecastle Day Care Centre. She discussed plans for the centre’s ‘Walk, Run, Jog or Cycle Day’ on June 2.

Finally, a new programme has launched in primary schools across the country to teach children about and to protect nature. Bodyke NS is a leader in the new, ‘Eco Rangers’ programme and the show spoke to Bodyke NS teacher, Eadaoin Ryan and to Dara from sixth class and MJ from second.
