Tuesday’s edition of Morning Focus opened with an update on the strike at Bus Éireann which has entered its fifth day and could spread soon to include rail services.
Gavin was joined on the line by Dermot O’Leary the National Bus and Rail Workers Union (NBRU).
As controversy continues to beset An Gárda Siochána, Gavin was joined on the line by FF TD Timmy Dooley who said that, despite concerns, his party won’t support a Sinn Féin motion of no confidence in the commissioner.
New laws that criminalise the buying of sex have come into force. While they’re designed to combat prostitution, sex workers say they’re driven by a moral crusade and not by reality on the ground. Gavin spoke to Dearbhla Ryan a community worker with the Sex Workers Alliance of Ireland (SWAL).
The incidence of smoking in Ireland has been disputed by the smoker’s lobby group, Forest Ireland. Gavin spoke to John Mallon, its representative. Listen back below:

The dangers of drinking at home were underlined by Gavin’s next guest, Michael. It comes as a new study shows that Ireland tops a league table of 25 countries when it comes to home drinking and ‘pre-drinking’. Michael who told Gavin that there are many and complex reasons why people drink at hom and that this habit led him into alcoholism. Listen back below:
