Tuesday’s Morning Focus heard from East Limerick, where the late legendary Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan was laid to rest today.

Reporter Paul Quinn joined Gavin from Ballybricken where thousands of people, including President Michael D Higgins, have been paying their respects.

The show opened with a discussion about the current system of weather alerts. Despite frequent warnings, Cllr Pat Hayes (FF) joined Gavin to express concern that much of East Clare was caught unawares last weekend when spot flooding occurred.

Then, SF candidate in Clare, Noeleen Moran joined Gavin to respond to criticism of the party made by the Taoiseach in an exclusive interview with Clare FM.

After that, Cillian Murphy from Kilrush joined Gavin to explain why the town is running a campaign to go ‘plastics free’.

With the UK appointing a minister for loneliness, Gavin then chatted to Seán Moynihan of the organisation Alone, about whether or not we need the same initiative here.

Murt McInerney, a long-time grass-roots member of Fianna Fáil, from Doonbeg, then joined Gavin to say he felt his party leader’s views on repealing the Eight Amendment are out of step with the majority of members.

Claire Ní Grianna, Coordinator of the Horticulture Programme with CLDC, joined Gavin to talk about a new course starting in Clarecastle. Listen back below:

Then, Maria Woods a singer and voice coach, came to studio to tell Gavin why she believes anyone can learn to sing. Listen back below:

Aisling Haugh was Gavin’s next guest. She’s a career guidance teacher at Kilrush Community College and runs Clarity Career Coaching in Ennis and gave her reaction to a recently-announced review of guidance in schools.
