This edition of Morning Focus opened with a tribute from Bishop of Killaloe, Fr Fintan Monahan, to the late Eamon Casey, former Bishop of Galway.

The discussion then turned to accusations of lobbying of TDs against members of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI) over efforts to tighten up drink driving laws. The Clare Chairperson of the VFI, Darragh McAllister told Pat Flynn that while meetings are taking place between members and local Oireachtas members, there’s no question of them condoning drink driving.

As the Cheltenham Festival opened, Pat was joined by racing correspondent Rupert Bell.

With tragic news breaking of a rescue helicopter lost at sea off the Mayo coast, Pat was joined from the scene at Blacksod Pier by Anton McNulty of the Mayo News.

Further tributes to the late Eamon Casey were made by Kilmaley native Eamonn Meehan the Director of Trócaire who remembered how the former bishop was a champion of human rights when he was chairperson of the charity.
