Morning Focus – Tuesday 14/01/17

Tuesday’s Morning Focus Show was brimming with interesting guests and topics.

The first hour of the show commenced with talks about the controversial whistle-blower scandal. Councillor Mike McKee joined Gavin on the show to discuss the issue.

Following that, FG Deputy Pat Breen spoke with Gavin about Clare’s junior minister meeting the secretary of state for Northern Ireland to discuss Brexit.

Next, Chief Superintendent John Kerin joined Gavin to talk about crime figures in Ireland. While he was pleased that crime figures dropped in Clare, he was concerned that drink and drug numbers remained the same.

At 10am, Gavin hosted ‘The Money Doctor’ segment with the aid of Independent Financial Advisor John Lowe.

After that, Dermot O’Leary, NBRU General Secretary talked with Gavin about the bus strikes. Clare County Council is calling on the Minister for Transport to bring all parties together for talks to avert a strike at Bus Éireann.

Then, Gavin chatted with former mayor of Ennis, Michael Guilfoyle about concerns that Turnpike power outages are impacting the elderly gravely.

To finish up the second hour, Gavin was joined by Fr Arnold Rosney of St Senan’s Parish in Shannon. They talked about the Catholic Church launching love tokens for Valentine’s Day.

To commence the final hour of the show, Gavin welcomed Joanne Condon, furniture artist, and Pauline McDonagh, Waste prevention officer, onto the show. They gave the listeners Greener Homes hints.

In celebration of Valentines Day, Stephen McDermott from Clare FM, joined Gavin to discuss what movies to watch or not watch on this love-sick day.

Following that, Diarmuid Scully, PRO of Bunratty International Chess Festival, chatted to Gavin about the Bunratty International Chess Festival.

To close the show, Gavin was joined by Deirdre O’Mahony, Artist and curator of Kilnaboy X-PO film series. They talked about the film series and how it started.
