On Tuesday’s edition of Morning Focus, talk of the ‘Beast from the East’ continued as people calculated their losses post Storm Emma.

Gavin spoke with the President of Ennis Chamber of Commerce, William Cahir, about the cost of the ‘Beast from the East’. Independent shops across the county have suffered due to the weather conditions in recent times and William urged people to shop local and prioritise small business.

Then, Eugene Drennan, an Ennis based haulier talked to Gavin about getting Ireland moving again after the impact of the severe weather.

The show opened with a discussion of the recent signing of contracts to change the King Thomond Hotel in Lisdoonvarna into a direct provision centre. Deputy Timmy Dooley and Theresa O’Donohue joined Gavin on this issue.

Next, Enda McLoughlin, IDA Regional Business Development Manager, spoke to Gavin about the jobs boost announcement for the Mid West region, with the announcement this week by Edward Lifesciences of an €80 million investment.

Then, Frankie Coote, Clare County dog warden, came onto Morning Focus to give the update on animal welfare in the region.

After that, Rita McInerney of the West Clare Drama and Comedy Festival, spoke to Gavin about the opening of the 57th West Clare Drama and Comedy Festival in Doonbeg. The Festival takes place at the Doonbeg Community Hall from the 10th of March till the 19th of March.

Next, the deputy president of the IFA, Richard Kennedy, discussed DIY breathalyzer kits for rural drivers. He also updated Gavin on conditions now faced by farmers.

Following that, Cora Gunter from the Ennis Book Club Festival Committee, spoke to Gavin about the costs of cancelling the festival due to the snow storm.

To round off the show, Clare FM’s Elina Kovale, went out into the streets of Ennis to talk to people about the social media phenomenon that is the ‘selfie’.
