Up to 70 jobs at Shannon Airport could be under threat as Aer Lingus considers transferring its maintenance operations from the Mid West to Dublin.
The issue is up for discussion by the board of the former state carrier this coming Friday and its reported that while the maintenance facility would remain at Shannon – it would be tiny after operations are consolidated in Dublin.
One key issue is what would happen to the Aer Lingus maintenance hangar at Shannon, which is leased from the Dublin Airport Authority
On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Timmy Dooley TD, Fianna Fail Transport Spokesperson who voiced his concerns and Pat Breen TD of Fine Gael.

Representatives from housing associations across Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary met with the Minister for Housing Jan O’Sullivan T.D and discussed increasing housing need in the Mid-West, lack of funding, supported housing, use of NAMA properties and other challenges for the sector
Donal McManus – Executive Director of the Irish Council for Social Housing and Frank Gunter, Secretary of the Inagh Housing Association discussed the situation in Clare and the Midwest
Housing need has increased in Clare by 74%
 

The Olympic Torch arrived in Ireland on Friday six weeks ahead of schedule after a flight carrying it from Orlando, Florida to London Heathrow diverted to Shannon for refuelling
Natasha Naughton-O’Keeffe – the Shannon Airport Duty Manager on duty at the time- was one of the first at the airport to hold the Olympic Torch after it was transferred from the flight to a scheduled Shannon-Heathrow service

Gerard Kennedy – Enterprise and Rural Development Manager – Clare Local Development Company explained what will be on offer and encouraged unemployed people in the Ennis area to attend
They are holding similar event in Kilrush 16th May, Ennistymon 31st May and Sixmilebridge 14th June including a motivational talk and information stands with Citizens information, Clare VEC, Clare Enterprise Board and all relevant agencies that can help unemployed.

The Clare Branches of the RNLI Lifeboats will launch the Clare lifejacket lifeboat appeal on May Day tonight at the Sanctuary in the Queens Hotel at 8.30pm
The appeal centres around a new drive by the lifeboats to deliver to every crew member in every lifeboat station one of the most up to date lifejackets there is available.

He is one of the youngest treasurers in the lifeboat Institution and his family the Glynn’s of Kilrush have been Lifeboat supporters and business people for centuries- h spoke about the new lifejacket and its advantages.
