Sharon Collins is continuing her jail term at Mountjoy women’s prison after losing her appeal against her conviction for hiring a hitman to kill three Ennis businessman
The 47 year old mother of two from the Kildysart road in Ennis appeared before the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday to hear judgement on the challenge against her conviction for soliciting a Las Vegas conman to murder PJ, Robert and Niall Howard five years ago.
In a detailed ruling the three judge court rejected her appeal, though they previously overturned separate charges of conspiracy to murder her partner and his sons when the case was heard last year
Sharon Collins is now concentrating on her expected early release and may even write a book
Her solicitor Eugene O’Kelly spoke to Clare FM’s John Cooke and started by giving his reaction to the appeal verdict.

The North Clare Historical Society presents: ‘Drawing the Naked Sword: The Clare volunteers and the Mountjoy Hunger Strike  1917’ a lecture by East Clare Local Historian Tomás McConmara in the Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon this Monday
The lecture will discuss the Clare Volunteers and the Mountjoy Hunger Strike of September 1917.  It will explore the leading role played by members of the Clare Volunteers in confronting the British establishment in 1917 and its impact nationally.  It will also examine the situation within Mountjoy Jail, where the British authorities force-fed the hunger strikers leading to the death of Tomás Ashe from Kerry

All walks will be guided and will take in some of the great natural wild beauty of East Clare
There will be walks near Slieve Aughty and Slieve Bearnagh including the magnificent scenery of Lough Derg and Lough Graney
