On Thursday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Michael McNamara TD of the Labour Party who is endorsing a Yes vote in the Children’s Referendum and Dr Gerry Fahey, Dublin based psychologist, who’s urging people to vote No this Saturday
Both speakers will feature at a Clare Citizens Information Service and the Clare Labour Party’s jointly organised Public Information Session on the Children’s Rights Referendum in the Temple Gate Hotel tonight at 8pm – all are welcome.
 
In our Grow it Yourself slot Carmen Cronin, GIY Regional Champion and Richard Morrison from Maurices Mills joined John in studio to speak about rearing animals for the table
Richard described himself as a refugee from London city life- he was Director of Burrenbeo Trust for 4 years
He explained how to get started raising animals for the table; picking animals; licensing etc; time period and facilities you need; killing and butchering and the cost effectiveness of doing this yourself. 

John was joined in studio by Michael McTeigue, cousin of the great Kilnamona world champion boxer Mike McTeigue; Colm Flynn of Ennis Boxing Club and Chris Hanrahan from Clarecastle to speak about their friend, the late Sean Malone
Sean was born in Clarecastle in 1939- he emigrated to Connecticut and died on 16th October this year having battled cancer and other illnesses
Sean made his mark in New England in boxing circles- he set up Malone’s Gym in Wallingford and was a nationally known trainer, judge, promoter and referee
Sean was inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in 2010
His son, Sean Jnr, became Golden Gloves New England Lightweight Champion
A benefit night for the late Sean Malone Snr formerly of Barntick, Clarecastle is taking place this Saturday night in Power’s Lounge, Clarecastle at 8pm – all are welcome.
