The inquiry into the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation(IBRC) has been widened to investigate whether preferential interest rate deals were given to some large borrowers. The Government announced Wednesday night that the inquiry into IBRC has been upgraded to a Commission of Investigation, headed by a High Court judge, and Opposition parties and TDs, such as Independent Catherine Murphy, are to be consulted on its scope. Fiach Kelly Irish Times Political Correspondent had more on this.

People will be given the opportunity to air their opinions on a proposed inner relief road and bridge which its hoped will resolve traffic congestion issues at Blake's Corner in Ennistymon. Public consultation event is taking place at the Falls Hotel on June 10th from 3pm to 8pm. People will have 4 weeks to make written submissions before a final decision is made on which option is pursued through a formal planning process. Sheena Clancy of West Clare Flowers Ennistymon is urging the people of Ennistymon and further afield to get behind those that are at risk of losing their homes and businesses, like her. Retailers in Ennis and Kilrush have welcomed the introduction of parking incentives, which they hope will boost footfall and increase consumer spending. Free parking is being provided in Clare County Council’s car parks in Ennis from 2.00 p.m. each Saturday, though charges will continue to apply to on-street car parking in the town. In Kilrush, motorists can park for free for two hours on any day, and both schemes will be in place until September. Johnny Flynn – Mayor of Ennis says this parking trial is to encourage people in Clare to support Clare businesses by shopping in Ennis and Kilrush. Mairead O Brien – President of Kilrush Chamber of Commerce, like Johnny has welcomed the free parking trial and says it is fantastic for the town – Kilrush is a beautiful town that with the recent Entente Floral and tidy towns projects is doing really well so free parking is even more inviting for people.

Anthony Galvin, Children's Entertainer from Ennis spoke to us on March 3rd as he waited to hear if his application for a seasonal job in the world’s most southerly and possibly coldest post office had been successful. Anthony, was one of over 1,000 people who have applied for four positions on Goudier Island off the Antarctic Peninsula where there is no running water, mains power and only limited communications — but plenty of penguins. The successful team of four would spend next November to March, running a shop, post office, and maintenance and museum operation at Port Lockroy for the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust. Anthony sadly missed out on the post but is determined to apply again next year . . . he checked in with John this morning.
