Morning Focus opened with an update on the health of Clare Senior Hurling Manager, Davy Fitzgerald. It's hoped he'll be back on the sidelines this Sunday after being admitted to hospital.
A spokesperson for the Clare Senior Hurling squad says he was transferred to a Dublin hospital yesterday for unspecified tests.
In 2009, he underwent what was described as minor heart surgery to have stents inserted due to a blocked artery. Gavin spoke to Joe Cooney, Clare GAA County Board Chair.
A theme of this week's show has been issues around Ireland's minimum wage. Clare's Junior Minister has defended the Low Pay Commission, amid criticism of its recommendation that the minimum wage be increased by 10c per hour.
The group has advocated an increase of the minimum wage to 9.25, though the UNITE trade union has described this as "insulting".
Employers groups also say the increase is bad for business.
Minister of State in the Department of Jobs Pat Breen says the government has yet to make its own decision, based on these guidelines. Gavin spoke to Dep Pat Breen, Minister for State at the Dept of Enterprise, Trade & Employment.
Morning Focus then heard that all-out strike by ambulance staff looks set to get underway next month (August). SIPTU members have served notice of an all-out action from August 10. The dispute centres on terms and conditions of employment.
Earlier this month, SIPTU members voted by 92% to 8% to back strike action. The union claims that management has failed to engage adequately with staff on issues including compensation due under the Lansdowne Road Agreement, an annualised hours system, and development of an intermediate care service as recommended by the Labour Court.Emergency service will be provided during the strike period and SIPTU says it remains available for meaningful discussions.

World Youth Day 2016 (WYD 2016) is an international Catholic event focused on faith and youth, due to be celebrated from July 25–31, 2016 in Kraków, Poland, organised by the Catholic Church. A group of 30 young people are travelling to the event – under the direction of Fr Donagh O'Meara (PP Bodyke (Kilnoe & Tuamgraney)- from the Diocese of Killaloe and he spoke to Gavin about the pilgrimage.

Morning Focus then remembered Nora Canavan who passed away this week at the age of 108. The Doolin lady had been Ireland's oldest citizen.
