The government's published plans for new laws to clamp down on serial burglars. The bill will ensure that serial offenders will have to serve sentences one-at-a-time, instead of concurrently. It also aims to stop repeat offenders from being released on bail if they've already been convicted of burglary and are still facing charges for other robberies. The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says the bill will make sure that serial offenders are given firm punishment, and will back up the constitutional rights of every citizen. Statistics released by the Clare Garda Dvision show there have been 103 burglaries in Clare in the first three months of the year, a figure which has risen marginally on 2014. Mairead Fernane Founder and National President of Victim Assistance Ireland, Tralee and Senan Keane Chairman of Killimer Knockcerra Community Alert group both welcomed the new legislation.
