Thursday’s Morning Focus had a lively mix of political issues and compelling interviews on themes from joy to loss.

The show opened with a look at the worsening problem of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital. With 69 people on trolleys at UHL on one day this week, Gavin heard from Mary Fogarty of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The show then looked at the impact of the eight amendment to the Constitution, on the 34th anniversary of its adoption. Gavin was joined by Cora Sherlock of the Pro Life Campaign.

Gavin then presented a special report from a local authority meeting on housing. He spoke with Cllr Gerry Flynn and with Thomas Guilfoyle who are calling for more to be done to address the accommodation and homelessness crisis in this county.

Dr Máire Finn then joined Gavin in studio to discuss the HPV vaccine. Listen back below to ‘Ask the GP’.

Stella O’Malley, author and psychotherapist was the next guest on Morning Focus. She discussed her new book ‘Bully Proof Kids’ with Morning Focus Producer, Fiona McGarry.

Gerard Reidy was Gavin’s next guest as he told him all about the Burren Peaks Walking Festival, taking place this weekend (September 10 and 11).

The show then looked at some of the practises around Irish wakes and funeral traditions. Gavin was joined on the line by filmmaker and author Kevin Toolis who’s written a new book called ‘My Father’s Wake’. Listen back below:
