Morning Focus – Thursday 05/07/18

Thursday’s Morning Focus continued to tackle Clare’s drug epidemic as we heard from Maria Ryan, a Clare based mother and anti-drug activist. Previously, Maria campaigned against head shops in Clare but now she’s made it her mission to encourage young addicts to seek help.

Then, as the heatwave rolls on and people flock to the coasts, Lahinch is again facing a litter problem. Locals are calling for more bins as bins are full to the brim and rubbish is being left in bags alongside them. These bags are ripped apart by birds and other animals and there is only one General Operative working in Lahinch.

Rounding out the show’s first hour Revive Active is celebrating its 7th anniversary. Revive Active is a company which sells natural health food supplements. The company employs 22 people and exports to 42 countries worldwide. Dr Daniel Jones talked to Pat Flynn about our diets and the benefit of Revive Active’s products.

Then, we got details on the Killaloe/Ballina emergency service open day as part of the Féile Brian Bóru Festival. On Sunday July 8th a number of emergency services including the Gardaí, Coast Guard and Fire Service will open their doors to guests. Pat was joined in studio by Sergeant Annette Ryan of the Killaloe Gardaí, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Colm Frawley, and Arlene White, a representative of Féile Brian Boru.

Finally, Louise Donlon, Director of the Lime Tree Theatre detailed the theatre’s upcoming play ‘Jimmy Hall’. Jimmy Hall tells the true story of a Leitrim farmer who built one of Ireland’s earliest dance halls. After the dance hall gets the notice of the local Church and politicians Jimmy is forced to flee. The play will run in abbey Theatre at the Lime Tree in Limerick from July 14th to 21st.
