A 54 year old man has been injured in a shooting in Limerick. It happened at around 7 o'clock this morning close to the University of Limerick Campus. He's being treated for his injuries at University Hospital in the city. The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination. A car which was found burned out a short distance away is being forensically examined by Gardai. Irish Water says virtually everyone in Ennis will benefit from its ongoing efforts to boost water infrastructure in the town. A four-week closure of New Road begins today to allow for works pm the Ennis Watermains Rehabilitation Project. This 3.7 million euro investment will see 12 kilometres of pipes being laid, but will also lead to disruption at times over the next twelve months. Former Clare TD James Breen has become the new Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council. The Independent Kilnamona Councillor was unanimously chosen to Chair the local authority for the year ahead, taking the Mayoral Chains from outgoing Cathoirleach, John Crowe from Sixmilebridge in line with a cross party power sharing agreement reached by all 28 members last year. Members of the Breen family along with friends and supporters packed the public gallery of Aras Chontae an Chlair for the Council AGM this afternoon, as the new Cathoirleach said there was no greater honour than to represent his home county as First Citizen. James Breen and John Crowe joined us in studio.

Organisers of Inis Fest are hoping the event will go ahead again in the future despite making losses of around 60,000 euro this weekend. 1,100 people attended the event each night at the Showgrounds in Ennis, while more went to a family day there yesterday. Sales figures for the first-ever Inis Fest have yet to be finalised but organisers expect losses in the region of 60,000 euro. Councillor Johnny Flynn was involved in the organisation of the event as part of his role as Mayor of Ennis, which has just come to an end. He says the event provided a massive boost to businesses in the town, however, it was evident in the days running up to the event that organisers were going to take a substantial financial hit. From the hundreds of entries received from families all over Munster, the Woman’s Way & Lidl Mum of the Year Awards judging panel had the daunting task of whittling it down to just three. Fifteen mums have been chosen to attend the finals in Dublin this weekend. One of those is Ardnacrusha mum of 4 Caroline Curtis nominated by her daughter Nicole. The primary reason Nicole nominated her mum was for the endless support and care her mother has given her since being born with congenital heart disease giving her just a two-year life expectancy. However Caroline remained strong for Nicole and fought for her treatments through research and fighting her case with surgeons – they shared their story with John Cooke
