At least one fifth of mortgage holders should consider switching their business to another bank.
Central Bank figures show that 157,000 borrowers could potentially save thousands of euro over the course of their mortgage. The Bank examined the books of three of the country's main lenders and found that thousands of homeowners on a standard variable rate are paying more than they have to. Ennis Hospital has surpassed targets set by the Minister for Health for outpatient appointments and day care procedures. UL Hospitals Group is the first in the country to achieve its target with waiting lists at the region's main hospital at 18 months, while in Ennis, Nenagh, Croom and St John's Hospitals, people are only waiting 12 months. Four consultants have been appointed to the group, while three consultant surgeons and two consultant anaesthetists are expected to take up roles across the group within the year, including in day case surgery in Ennis. Teresa Hennessy from Ennis joined us in studio following her recent trip to Nepal to see her daughter Melanie who has founded and is running an orphanage in the outskirts of Kathmandu. Melanie Hennessy from Cloughleigh in Ennis was in the orphanage when the earthquake hit Nepal in April . There has been a number of fundraisers in aid of Nepal since the Earthquake hit and this coming Friday there is a bagpacking Fundraiser for Melanie's Charity “Draiocht NUIG society” that she set up in 2008 to generate funds to build the orphanage. Theresa shared the details with Marian aswell as appealing for volunteers for the event.
Garda Focus next with Joe Downey Crime Prevention Officer Ennis Garda Station. While appealing for your help in solving recent local crime, Sgt Downey also offered advice to listeners if they find themselves face to face with an intruder in their home – this is following a number of burglaries right across the county.
The average Irish pay phone is now used less than once every two days. Figures from Eircom show that between June 2014 and May 2015 there were, on average, 11.6 calls made per month from each pay phone nationally and 14.4 per month in Dublin. This works out at a national average of a call every 2.62 days nationally. The number of Eircom phone boxes has fallen by almost two thirds in the last 10 years as the popularity of mobile phones has continued to increase. Paul Bradley Eircom Director of Corporate Affairs spoke about the future of the phonebox.
