Today’s Morning Focus began with a look back on the weekend which saw Pope Francis visit Ireland.
Much of the visit was focused on the legacy of church abuse scandals and as today many commentators give their two cents on the matter we talked to Diocesan Communications Officer for Killaloe Fr. Brendan Quinlivan.
Then, Annie Marie Harrington of Future Proof Clare talked about a recent planning permission extension for a LNG plant at Shannon Estuary. The LNG import terminal would have a gas send-out capacity of 28.3 million standard cubic metres a day and many people have environmental concerns and concerns about the ecology of the estuary, Anne Marie and Future Proof Clare included.

Finally the first hour ended with farmer reaction to the fodder import scheme. By now we’ve all heard of the ‘fodder crisis’ where farmers across the country are being left short due to a long wet winter followed by a long dry summer. The Minister for Agriculture announced a €4.25 million fodder import scheme last week but many farmers feel it’s ‘too little too late’. Among those farmers is Cratloe-based General Secretary of ICSA, Eddie Punch.
The next hour began with our weekly Garda Focus segment with Clare Crime Prevention Officer Tríona O’Rourke.
Then we heard from heard from our second Anne Marie of the day, Anne Marie Russell, daughter of Paddy Russell, in the aftermath of the fraudulent letters submitted to Clare County Council surrounding planning permission for a motorway services plaza near Ennis. Paddy’s name was one of many included on the letters even though he passed away 15 years ago. Supermacs has acknowledged the hurt caused by the matter and requested Gardaí investigate the letters.
Then, we heard an interview from last Friday where Pat Flynn spoke to acclaimed musician and Nashville native Brian Ashley Jones. Jones, whose guitar-driven Country and Blues tunes have found their way into film, television, radio and have been recorded by multiple performing artists, played a number of special gigs across the Banner County last weekend.

Finally the show ended with a good long sports discussion in the form of a long Monday Sports Panel. This week’s panel included Seamus Hayes, the Sports Editor of The Clare Champion and of course Clare FM Sport’s Derrick Lynch.
