Morning Focus – Monday 25/06/18

Morning Focus opened with a visit from the new Mayor of Clare County Council, Cllr Michael Begley from Clonlara.

The Independent council member, first elected to Clare County Council in 1991, suceeds Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom McNamara in the role of mayor.

Then the show heard from Gary Fitzgibbon from Shannon, a mental health campaigner who has secured a meeting with Minister Jim Daly. His campaign comes after his own experiences with mental health issues and lack of services in that area.

Rounding out Monday’s first hour, Eunan McKinney represented Alcohol Action Ireland. The organisation is urging the swift passage of the Public Health Alcohol Bill which will introduce new controls on the sale of alcohol such as mandatory cancer warnings on packaging.

Hour two began with our weekly Garda and crime segment with Garda Sargent Joe Downey.

Then sticking with crime prevention we heard details on the #secureitkeepit campaign from Construction Industry Federation (CIF) Regional Director, Justin Molloy. CIF has partnered with the Gardaí to create the campaign which aims to tackle construction related theft and other crime by teaching construction workers how to keep their tools, equipment and sites secure.

Then author Padraig Ó Moráin discussed his new book Kindfulness. The book’s aim to teach us to care for and love ourselves and by extension others, enabling us all to live a better, happier life. Kindfulness will be published on June 28th by Yellow Kite.

The hour ended with details on the Final Runway Run at Shannon Airport.

Hour three was time for the Monday Sports Panel. This week’s panel included Peter O’Connell, editor of the Clare Champion and Clare FM Sport’s Derrick Lynch and Clare FM Football Analyst, Joe Garry.

The show ended with Fr. David Mlemeta from Tanzania. Mlemata is visiting the Ballynacally/Lissycasey parish until the end of June. The parish is currently organising a 40 foot container of humanitarian aid for Tanzania. The planned departure for the container is September so it’ll reach Tanzania for Christmas. Items can be left at Ballynacally Community Centre Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:30am and 3:30pm.
