The Omniplex Cinema in Skycourt, Shannon is currently in a soft opening but officially opens this Wednesday just after midnight with the showing of the new Star Wars film, Star Wars IX: The Rise Of Skywalker.

Before that on the show,farmer, Michael Davoren joined us on the line to discuss how Farmers want a new strategy to stop the spread of bovine TB. Farmers whose farms have been affected by occurrences of bovine TB have called for a new strategy to be rolled out urgently to tackle the spread of the disease. It comes as the Department of Agriculture acknowledges that progress towards the eradication of bovine TB has stalled and overall national disease levels have slightly increased in each of the past three years. It is the Government’s aim to eradicate bovine TB in Ireland by 2030.
Next on the show, Martin Varley, Secretary General of the IHCA joined us on the line to discuss Minister Simon Harris’s comments on overcrowding in UHL. The IHCA have said that Minister Harris is incorrect in saying that UHL doctors (Consultants), other than surgeons, are not travelling to smaller hospitals. On the contrary, the majority of consultants in UHL, not just surgeons, are working in other hospitals in addition to UHL. This includes St John’s, Ennis, Nenagh, Newcastle West and Thurles Hospitals. The IHCA said that the root cause of the unacceptable number of patients being treated on trolleys in UHL is the lack of sufficient acute bed capacity in UHL and the low number of consultants due to the difficulty in filling permanent consultant posts because of the Government’s discrimination against new consultants.

Next, we had an update on crime-related issues on our Garda Focus slot with Clare County Crime Officer, Tríona O’Rourke.
Next Imelda Lynch of Carrigaholt Development Association ad Margaret Cotter, Rural and Community Development Officer with Clare County Council joined us on the line to discuss the Clare Local Lift to be piloted as a new solution for rural transport. During 2018, Clare County Council was successful in securing funding from Enterprise Ireland under the Small Business Innovation Research fund. The purpose of the fund is to drive innovation across the Irish public sector by solving age-old societal problems in new ways. It enables engagement between the public sector and technology-rich companies who join forces to work on competitive challenges.
