Monday’s Morning Focus looked back on the day before – or more specifically, the Clare and Kerry match. The two sides clashed in Ennis in the Munster SFC Semi-Final which saw the Kingdom coming out on top. The Clare Champion’s Peter O’Connell joined Gavin in studio to look back on the game.
The show opened with Lahinch hotelier Michael Vaughan discussing the shortage in Chefs and how it could affect Clare’s hospitality sector.
Next, the show heard from University of London Journalism lecturer Tom Felle who gave us the latest on the UK government, five days after the general election which failed to return any party in an overall majority.
Kilmaley-native Eamonn Meehan is the director of Trocaire and he’s calling on Leo Varadkar to reaffirm Ireland’s commitment to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and he spoke to Gavin just before 10am.
On the other side of the 10am news we heard from Clare Museum Curator John Rattigan who explained to Clare FM’s James Mulhall that the museum has adopted a new crisis plan, which outlines how the museum would protect its artifact in the event of a fire, flood or theft.
You might have seen the Clare men travelling around the 32 counties, to raise money for the RNLI. Their aim was to puck a sliotar in each county in the space of 24 hours – and they managed it with four hours to spare! Dan McInerney was one of those involved and he looked back on the challenge with Gavin this morning.
Georgina McKenna, the founder of Count Her In spoke to Gavin about her online and offline community which aims to help women find friends in their area. They’re visiting Clare for an event on Thursday (June 15th).
Fr Séamus Enright then filled us in with the details of the Redemptorist Novena in Limerick which is starting this Friday (June 16th). This year’s focus is Marriage and Family Life and is being dreamed live on www.novena.ie.
Our weekly Fleadh News slot saw Rory Casey and Deirdre Power join Gavin to preview the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2017.
Finally, we heard from Archie Simpson and Peter O’Donohue of the Lismorahaun Singers. They’re a not-for-profit choir based in North Clare with more than 50 members and in the coming weeks they’ll be performing pieces from Mozart’s Requiem in concerts in Ennis and Ballyvaughan. They spoke about the upcoming concerts and then performed a live piece.
