Morning Focus – Friday October 16th 2015

On today's Morning Focus with Gavin Grace

Opposition parties have called for an explanation from the Government into the decision last month by the organisers of the Web Summit to relocate the event from Dublin to Lisbon. Yesterday, the event organisers published correspondence between them and senior Government officials, showing how relationships deteriorated significantly in the four weeks prior to the announcement that the event was being moved to Portugal. In a statement, the Government said the documents "are a selection of rather than a full account of contact between the summit and Government and it's agencies". Fianna Fáil's Spokesman on Tourism Timmy Dooley said it was totally unacceptable that the Government failed to deal with repeated requests over concerns raised by the Web Summit organisers. Deputy Timmy Dooley, Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Tourism spoke about the result of the Web Summit moving away from Ireland.

The Irish Skin Foundation wants moisturisers for treating conditions like eczema to be available for free on the medical card. It says many sufferers can't afford to use enough cream which is making the problem worse. At the moment patients don't pay for moisturisers which contain steroids – but the skin foundation is warning that patients are at risk of overusing them because they can't afford an alternative. The bill for eczema treatments can run up to hundreds of Euros according to the Skin Foundation. Sheila, who is a Dermatology Nurse in UHL spoke about why it is necessary for the government to give more access to these creams.
