Our Deputy News Editor Trudy Waters joined us live from the Clare count centre at the Auburn Lodge Hotel in Ennis to set the scene, she also had a chat with Clare’s Returning Office Pat Wallace about the proceedure involved. 

John Cooke spoke with Michael Brennan, Deputy Political Editor with The Irish Independent, who gave national predictions and analysis.
 
Ennis General Hospital Manager Frank Keane spoke about how the hospital grounds first smoke free day went yesterday
The Mid-Western Regional Hospital Group including, Ennis, Limerick and Nenagh are now Smoke-Free campuses
The campus plan is here to stay for visitors, patients and staff and a permanent ban on smoking in or around the hospitals including its grounds, car park and former smoking areas is being enforced with immediate effect
Consultant Physician Aidan O’Brien spoke with us on this programme yesterday and admitted patients who smoke will have no choice but to give up or take to the streets, but he says its in the interest of everyone’s health.

Summer officially kicks off this weekend and lifeguards will begin the season on the major Clare beaches this weekend
Clare County Council also have safety advice for beach goers, swimmers and water sports enthusiasts
Lifeguards will take to beaches at Lahinch, Spanish Point, Kilkee and Fanore this weekend
On the weekend of 23rd of June they will begin on the White Strand in Miltown, the White Strand in Doonbeg, Mountshannon, Ballycuggerin and Cappa Kilrush
Then in July the beaches at Doolin, Seafield, Bishop’s Quarter at Ballyvaughan will be staffed with lifeguards
All of this is provided for in Blue Flag regulations as Liam Griffin, Water Safety Officer with Clare County Council, explained.

Maurice Harvey had a word with John ahead of the Ennistymon Agriculture Show taking place this weekend on the grounds of the Falls Hotel in Ennistymon.

This 13th Annual Doonbeg International Jazz Festival is kicking off tomorrow
