Bertie Ahern has admitted he 'got some things wrong' as Taoiseach – and the pain of the financial crisis "breaks his heart". The former Taoiseach's giving evidence to the Banking Inquiry Thursday afternoon. 
He says all international advice would be that there would be a soft landing of the construction boom. 
But he says the boom was not squandered – and he's proud of many of the things his governments achieved. Fiachra O’Cionnaith Political Reporter The Irish Examiner was at the inquiry and had all the details for John this morning.

Ennis native Domhall Slattery CEO of Avlon and Chair of The Clare People joined us in studio to speak about his story of an Irish Company, Avlon,  making such a success on the Stock Exchange and continuing to grow. In Addition, The Clare People are celebrating their 10th Birthday this week and Domhall shared their story so far. 

Nicola Downes Lahinch Playground Project Chairperson spoke to us, to announce the Playground is closed until further notice. Several pieces of equipment are damaged and not fit for purpose. It has been closed due to health and safety issues and Nicola and her team are extremely disappointed with this news but are investigating the cause of damage further. 

Our panel of three guests from around the county joined us in studio to take a look back at this week biggest news stories including the introduction of Eircodes and the confusion over addresses / Irish Water Bills with over 50% not paid in first quarter of the year and Clare Hurlers exit from the Championship with the announcement Davy is to stay on as their Manager. This weeks panel included Orla Vaughan Owner of Kilfenora Hostel, Kay Murphy Vice President of National Active Retirement and Ger O Halloran of Abbey Stores Quin / Manager of Clooney Quin Senior Hurlers

Weekend Events Round-up 

Shane Nolan is the Secretary of the West of Ireland branch of Farm Contractors of Ireland – this weekend he is hosting a family day in Shane's Contracting Yard in Finavara Burrin between 2 and 6 pm – with a BBQ, kids entertainement and a large display of argicultural machinery. €10 entry fee with all funds to Galway Hospice and Embrace Farm.

The Deaf Community Centre in Limerick are hosting a Family Fun Day on Saturday 18th July from 11 a.m. – 4:00 p.m in the famous Hunt Museum, Limerick. The highlight of the day will be the three 45 minute long performances from the unique ‘Hands in Harmony’ Deaf Community Choir, made up of Deaf and hearing people signing their songs through Irish Sign Language (ISL). With 5 members from Clare involved in the Choir, Co-ordinator of the Family Fun Day event Carrie O Donnell filled us in on the event. 

Ian Glendinning Member of the Loop Head Gathering Cross Festival Committee filled us in on what's happening this weekend in West Clare. In its 5th year The Loop Head Gathering is a free event all weekend – with highlights including Sports Day and music all day Saturday, Family Funday Sunday and Charity Cycle on Sunday in aid of  West Clare Cancer.
