After more than 20 years of campaigning for a new Coast Guard Station in Doolin, including a visit by Clare FM's Morning Focus to their old outdated facility here five years ago, it was an amazing site to arrive at Doolin Pier and see the attractive, modern, spacious state of the are building now their to serve the local community and Ireland's Wild Atlantic Sea. Ahead of this Sunday's open day for the public, John paid a visit to the new Doolin Coast Guard Station where Training Instructor Pat Cronin and Deputy Officer in Charge Tom Doherty gave him the grand tour.
Mattie Shannon, Irish Coast Guard Officer in Charge in Doolin and Aidan Fitzgerald Committee Member of Doolin Tourism both joined John outside Hotel Doolin to share their delight in the opening of the new station and what it means to the community there. Anthony Maloney Vice Chairman Doolin Tourism and of Doolin Hostel also spoke to us, outlining the flourishing businesses and organisations in Doolin and gave us just a taste of some of the fantastic events coming up in the area in the coming months.

To wrap up a fantastic morning in Doolin, John Morgan Kilfenora Trad Festival Organiser joined us ahead of the seventh annual traditional music festival this weekend with festival highlights including a concert with Lumiere in Kilfenora Hall, tonight at 8.30pm and an open-air céilí hosted by the fabulous Kilfenora Céilí Band at Kilfenora Square, on Sunday at 3.00pm.
Festival Musicians Noel O Donoghue from Kilfenora playing the Flute, James Cullinan of Cullinan's Restaurant Doolin playing the Fiddle and James Devitt playing the Fiddle gave just a taster of what you can expect in Kilfenora this weekend!
Reminder: Doolin Coast Guard Station Open Day
The Doolin Unit of the Irish Coast Guard would like to extend an invitation to all to join us on Sunday April 26th between 12.00 and 5.00 for our Station Open Day. Team members will show you around the building and demonstrate equipment. There will be music throughout the day and a display of children’s art work from all over North Clare.
