Friday’s edition of Morning Focus featured the regular Friday Panel who reviewed the news and events of the last week.

The show opened with a look at the controversial issue of repealing the Eight Amendment. Gavin was joined by Éilís Murphy of Abortion Rights Clare who are organising a bus to a Pro Choice march in Dublin this weekend.

The show then head from Lorraine Higgins of Retail Excellence Ireland, which is based in Ennis. The organisation is calling for a review in the Budget of the 23 percent rate of VAT.

Kilrush Community School celebrates its 25th birthday this weekend. Gavin spoke with Principal Rock Kirwan. Listen back below:

Janice Guinnane, Lady Farmer of the Year, hails from Kilnamona. She was recently crowned at the Ploughing Championships and she told Gavin about her win and her background on the family farm. Listen back below:

Mick Clifford then joined Gavin on the line. The Irish Examiner’s Special Correspondent told Gavin about his new book on Garda whistleblower, Sgt Maurice McCabe. ‘A Force for Justice’ tells the story of Sgt McCabe’s experience since raising concerns about Garda malpractice and about the scandal that convulsed the organs of the Irish State. Siobhán Mulcahy, Clare County Arts Officer, was next in studio with her round-up of weekend arts and cultural events.

Throughout the show, Clare FM’s Stephen provided updates on a treasure hunt to find where ‘Tommy McCanary’s’ features have landed. Four Morning Focus listeners were involved.

The show rounded off with a feature by Morning Focus Producer, Fiona McGarry, on a community café at The Junction in Coughleigh, Ennis.
