Good weather has prompted concerns over the extent of outdoor drinking in the centre of Ennis. A number of callers to Morning Focus have raised the issue, as well as business owners operating in The Height. Clare MF’s James Mulhall has been looking into the story, and he’s produced a report which featured on the program.

There’s alarm among farmers this week following the publication of a report by the Climate Change Advisory Council, which recommends cutting the number of suckler cows by up to 50% over the next ten years, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This, along with the signing of the Mercosur deal with Latin America and Brexit, is leading to an increasingly volatile sector and farming groups are deeply concerned. Those are some of the issues which the IFA are calling on Government to address, as part of their pre-Budget submission. Willie Hanrahan the County Clare Chair of the Irish Farmers Association joined us on the program to express his concerns.

The weather might not quite be playing ball at the moment, but it’s still the heart of the summer and the time when our thoughts tend to turn to a cold beer and a barbecue. Frank Landy, owner of Sweet ‘n’ Green in the Friary Car Park in Ennis joined us and gave us some tips for great barbecue dishes that you don’t necessarily need to cook outdoors.

We were joined by weekly Friday Panel:

Brian Meaney – Former Green Party member of Clare County Councillor
John Quinlivan – Former Shannon Development Regional Manager
Martin Waldron –  Businessman, Craft Works, Ennis

They discussed a number of topics such as:

· Anti-Social Behaviour in Ennis and Elsewhere
· What will the Premiership of Boris Johnshon Mean for Ireland in the Brexit Process?
· Are Farmers Bearing the Brunt of Climate Change Mitigation Measures?
· Are the sanctions against Dep Maria Bailey sufficient?

Next week will see the start of the 150th Galway Summer Racing Festival. The event which opens with 7 races on the card on Monday evening. Wednesday, is always, is Plate Day and it wouldn’t be Race Week without Ladies Day next Thursday.

Michael Moloney, General Manager of the Galway Racecourse joined us live on the show to tell us why this festival continues to go from strength-to-strength.
