There was a buzz around the studio this Friday as we’re fast approaching the big Clare/Galway hurling replay.
We had an overview of Clare’s prospects with Pat Donnellan, Clare Captain for 2013 and Clare FM’s resident sport expert Derrick Lynch. The Friday Panel also chimed in with their opinion later on.

Before all that though we discussed road works at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon with Senator Martin Conway. Clare County Council is pursuing a multi-million euro that involves the construction of a new bridge and other associated works to deal with the infamous traffic blackspot. Conway has expressed concerns that delays will lead to a completion date well into the next decade. Conway also touched on the closure of rural post offices.

Ending the show’s first hour we had a round up of the weekend’s events. Rachel Tierney gave us details on the Kilkee Fundraising Family Fun Day. This years’ cause is that of 10 year old Zara Cronin’s surgery in Spain which you’ll have heard about on this programme previously. The day promises a multitude of activities including cake sales, face painting, baloon modelling, live performances from Academy of Rock and Zumba and live music from DJ RuffStuff and Mad Banners. It’ll take place on Sunday August 5th at 12pm at Blue Dolphin Kilkee.
And then Michael Fitzpatrick talked about Kilmihil Festival Of Fun. The festival boasts a fun run, football, kiddies tractor run, water sports at Knockalough lake, banbh racing- yes real pig racing- a fireworks display, parade, craft fair, climbing wall, crazy golf and loads more. Moving into the show’s second hour we had the Friday Panel in studio. This week’s panel included former Fianna Fáil Minister and Clare TD Tony Kileen, Communications Specialist and ex-RTÉ Presenter Ciana Campbell and former Shannon Development Regional Manager John Quinlivan. As mentioned the panel weighed in on the hurling replay but they also talked about a number of other topics. These included the closure of rural post offices, the possibility of arming Gardaí with tasers and the so called ‘Granny Grant’ proposed by Shane Ross as a solution to childcare costs and shortages.

Finally Gavin spoke with Ronan O’Snodaigh, of the band Kila, about the upcoming Doolin Folk Festival. Live at the Barn in Hotel Doolin there will be two concerts. On Monday, August 6th they have Luka Bloom with special guests The Fiddle Case and on Tuesday, August 7th they have Kila with special guests Steo Wall and Katie Theasby.
