Morning Focus – Tuesday 27/02/18

On Tuesday’s edition of Morning Focus, talks about the asylum centre at King Thomond Hotel in Lisdoonvarna continue.

At 9 am, Gavin had a chat with Tom Tiernan, Senior Engineer at Clare County Council, about the ‘Beast from the East’ and what to expect when the snow storm arrives into the region.

Next, Gavin spoke to Alan Kerins, former Galway dual-code player and member of the Gaelic players Association. They discussed GAA’s ban on betting sponsorship and how it is welcomed in the community but more needs to be done to combat gambling.

Then, John Considine spoke to Gavin about the asylum centre in Lisdoonvarna with relation to his personal experiences. As a former member of the Yorkshire council, John worked with Vietnamese refugees and he is concerned that they do not have the resources needed to make this transition a successful one.

At 10 am, Gavin was then joined by Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, who has responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW). He was in Clare on an official visit to announce flood relief works for Clonlara and Clonaninchy.

Following that, John Garrett of John T Garrett & Associates, former president of Engineer’s Ireland in the Thomond region, joined Gavin to give advice to home-buyers.

Then, Gavin spoke to Ennis man, Martin Cucsack, who overcame his learning difficulties to run 15 marathons. ultra-cyclist Noel Cusack and Sergeant John Maloney joined him on the show.

Next, Gavin got the local animal welfare update from Clare County dog warden, Frankie Coote.

At 11 am, Gavin spoke to Dr Dilis Clare, GP and herbalist, about tackling hay fever and allergies with herbal medicines.
